A Slap in the Face of Public Taste.... .....a zine in the making.

On this here page we`ll try and feature some amazing bands currently(or in the past) cutting up the underground, from various scenes around the world. This section will hopefully bring you closer to some of the more exciting and criminally under-rated and overlooked bands in the D.I.Y. community.

I will try and have more pictures, MP3`s for you to listen to and links to resources where you can find out more about the bands in question - hell maybe some interviews too!

Loa Loa

Loa LoaA band from Moscow, Russia who play a seriously violent and full throttel brand of Power-violence.Mix in some crazy electronic sounds and some mad samples and hey!..you`ve got a lethal & essential combination on your hands! They released a cd(which is in the distro) on Retrothrasher - 22 minutes, total energy, mayhem and wacked out samples - a gem.
Loa Loa have just released a split cd with Englands Trencher, we`ll have copies of that shortly also!

Unison

UnisonUnison from Belgrade, Serbia. Playing a special brand of hardcore, they have some records out on Good Samaritan Records based in Bosnia.A storming full lenght album, "Resignation Speaks: I Will Be A Corpse", is a mesh of driving hardcore wranglings with a distinct Balkan/world music feel from some tracks.Passion feuled from the start, the album reaches almost epic stages before coming to an end with a brilliantly executed sample of Miles Davis - In A Silent Way.

Unison then released an amazing split 7" with Croatia`s Senata Fox also on Good Samaritan - thats where i heard of both bands first. These guys rule!
Check out the HaKo Bastards site for details of other Unison releases by them.

Waawe

WaaveFrom Tabor, Czech Republic.Waawe set a standard with the release of their debut in 2000, Timestorm was the Signal, on Minority Records & Silver Rocket. It remains in my all time Top 5 records since then - no kidding, its damn good! The album is like a strange & wonderful cross between Tristeza and the quite parts of Sonic Youth. Chilled out grooves and sublime Saxaphone plus flutes blend into melodic rock that catches you by surprise, destined to make your day.

In 2002 their second album, All Fabulous things turn out to happen, was released on their own Free Dimension Records. Its a more mature affair, with expert musicmanship - definately a progressive leap in the bands career. But my heart stays with Timestorm....On the live front, they look to be keeping a low profile.I think the members are currently more focused on the record label and D.I.Y. collective, Free Dimension.

Please download a track and check out more information on Free Dimension, Minority Records & Waawe while you listen.

Seven Days of Samsara

Milwaukee, U.S.A. is HQ for this hardcore unit. They have a list of records released throughout the years, split 7"`s with the likes of Destroyer, Cobrai Kai, Akarso...and a split lp with Since By Man - as well as a Discography on Harmless Records(check Distro) and a new full lenght L.P. due in 2005!

The band are more focused these days on the other bands they`re involved with, namely High On Crime, which features 2 members of Kylesa.High on Crime are a must to check out.Like a more Scandi-core version of Seven Days of Samsara - its pretty damn heavy!Check out their site for MP3`s.

For the total lowdown on what the band are about have a read of the Interview below i did with them last March. The interview is a scan from the zine itself, so get your reading glasses out!
